About City of Cambridge Parks
|
|
Cambridge, although traditionally
known as an industrial town, has large amounts of area under parkland. Thanks
to the hard work of the City of Cambridge Parks Department, these parks are some of
the most beautiful and best cared for parks we have ever seen.
Presently, there are nearly 270 hectares of parkland distributed throughout City of
Cambridge communities. Considering that the latest head count revealed that Cambridge
has approximately 102,000 residents, basic mathematics concludes that the City of
Cambridge provides 26.5 m² of parkland for each Cambridge resident. To put this in
perspective for anyone thinking in English units, this translates into just under
284.5 ft² of parkland per Cambridge resident. These figures do not include the large
amount of conservation area and trails also accessible to
the public. Having said this, it should not come as a surprise to anyone that
Cambridge has become a favoured tourist destination for nature enthusiasts.
Cambridge parks provide a multitude of services, from various sized playground areas,
wading/spray pads, sports arenas, outdoor sports facilities, animal displays and public
pools to breathtaking nature trails, picnic areas,
magnificant woodlots and a seemingly endless number of park benches from which to view
beautiful floral displays or just admire the beauty and charm of "Mother Nature". As well,
these parks host a multitude of annual events attracting not only Cambridge residents
but many tourists.
